Mindfulness is a well researched and recognised meditation technique to raise your awareness of being in the present moment and assists with many different issues, improving health and wellbeing. Mindfulness is linked with helping emotional problems such as stress, anxiety and recurring depression; as well as managing long term physical problems including skin conditions like psoriasis and chronic pain.
Through our Mindfulness Project we have therapists in Edgbaston and Bromsgrove who can provide mindfulness one-to-one as part of psychological therapy and also within a group setting. We have practitioners specifically trained in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy which is included in the National Institue of Clinical Excellence guidelines for treatment of recurring depression.
The origins of mindfulness are based in Buddhist meditation practices and were brought into the 21st century with western practices since 1970's, started by Dr Jon Kabat-Zinn and the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.
