At RedSwan, we recommend your first point of contact is always your own GP, however, unfortunately NHS waiting times for counselling, psychology or IAPT services are frequently longer than 3, 6 or even 9 months; also many surgeries have now had to cut back on their counselling provision altogether. As GPs only have 10 minutes in a consultation to discuss our concerns and symptoms, it often is just not long enough to talk in depth about how we are feeling; this sometimes makes us feel rushed or like a burden.
Here at RedSwan we offer bespoke referral to a therapist within 2 weeks of your initial enquiry and if you are unsure exactly what type of therapy you want, we will help you choose the most appropriate approach for your needs, by discussing all the various options available. Your referral will be managed compassionately by our Practice Co-ordinator Zahraa Arif; who will support you through the complete process and follow-up to ensure you are happy with the service we are providing for you. What to expect from your sessions
You will always see your therapist in a confidential consulting room, this is our comfortable Edgbaston consulting room
In the initial assessment session you will complete an initial therapy and risk assessment; discuss the nature of your symptoms and issues; as well as prepare to make plans for your treatment.
Sessions usually last 50-60 minutes, although the initial assessment appointment may be longer depending on the individual therapist.
Payments
Payment for your sessions are made directly to your therapist via cash or cheque in the session and some clients prefer to pay by BACS before the session. Please make payment arrangements with your therapist and they will provide all the relevant information you need. Please also not that cancellation of appointments must be made with 24 hours' notice, or full payment for the session will be due.
